The eighth annual Global Wellness Day (GWD) took take place Saturday, June 8th, 2019, and was the fifth time the special day was celebrated internationally. The focus for 2019 was “building communities of wellness.”
Founded by Belgin Aksoy, a Turkish businesswoman and owner of the Turkish wellness resort Richmond Nua (a WTA member), Global Wellness Day 2019 was celebrated in over 5,000 locations in 150+ countries and six continents.
It is Belgin’s passion that has motivated over 100 volunteer ambassadors, advisors and supporters to help make her dream become a reality across the globe.
“We go to school from the age of two, hoping that the education system is going to help prepare us for our future,” she says, “but nobody is teaching us how to live, how to breathe, how to be mindful and how to love ourselves as these are things that are essential to be a happy adult in the future.” She says, “a key goal of GWD is to teach children and families how to integrate wellness practices into their daily lives and then to carry on those practices throughout their lives.”
Because Belgin’s motivating belief is that wellness is not a luxury but the inherit right of every individual, the events organized each year need to be three things: educational, non-commercial and complimentary.
